A Message from your New SAFS President

I'm Will Currat and I am looking forward to serving as your President once again. The Swiss Club has been an important part of my life and I have been a member ever since I was a child. My Dad was from Switzerland and moved to Colorado in the 60's because he wanted to climb mountains. He was from the French speaking part of Switzerland from a small town called Corserey in the Canton of Fribourg. My mom is from Versailles, France and my parents met in Colorado when a mutual friend introduced them to each other because they both spoke French. I love conversing in French but my Swiss German is non-existent, sorry!

My dad was killed in an avalanche when I was a child, and some of you may not know this, but the Swiss club helped fund a plaque in his honor at the site of the avalanche at St. Mary's glacier in Idaho Springs, CO, in memory of the three people who died at that site.

My wife Jessica is an active club member and is also a board member, She currently does all the social media, emails and website updates. I have two kids. My daughter Isabelle is a nurse in Grand Junction and my son Martin is an auto mechanic in Denver.

In my day job I'm a Denver Deputy Sheriff, and on the weekends during the winter I coach for a kids ski program at Winter Park resort. I wish that was my full time job but skiing doesn't seem to pay the bills.

I'd love to hear from you, as we are always looking for ways to improve the club. If you have any feedback or suggestions for new events please don't hesitate to contact me by phone at 720-988-9893 or email at info@safs.us .

Á la prochaine.

Willam Currat, SAFS President

SAFS Rides the Winter Park Ski Train

Sunday March 15th

Join us on an annual tradition as we ride the Winter Park Ski Train up to Winter Park Resort for a day of winter adventures! The train departs Denver’s Union Station at 7:00am and leaves Winter Park at 4:35pm.

To join us you must book your own train ticket on the Winter Park Express on the Amtrak website. Ticket prices are currently at the lowest of the season, $19 each way. See the below graphic with the details for the station codes, make sure you enter the correct station codes and date when you purchase your ticket. At Winter Park Resort, you will also be responsible for the cost of your lift ticket if you do not have a ticket or a season pass. Please make sure you check the current lift ticket prices on the Winter Park website. If skiing isn’t your thing you are welcome to bring snow shoes to use at the resort or you can take the free bus into town and enjoy a day of shopping and restaurants.

Please send us an email if you have questions. Register HERE so we know who to expect! We will gather on the platform before the train leaves so that we can secure seating together!
